Shipboard Safety Officer Training is designed to provide maritime personnel with the knowledge and practical understanding required to support and promote a safe working environment on board ships. The training covers international maritime safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment, permit to work systems, incident reporting and investigation, emergency preparedness, and implementation of shipboard safety management systems in accordance with recognized maritime industry standards.
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Shipboard Safety Officer.
2. Interpret applicable maritime safety regulations, including SOLAS, ISM Code, STCW, and MLC 2006.
3. Identify workplace hazards and conduct effective risk assessments onboard.
4. Implement and monitor Permit to Work (PTW) procedures for hazardous operations.
5. Promote the correct selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
6. Conduct shipboard safety inspections, observations, and safety meetings.
7. Report, investigate, and analyze incidents, accidents, and near misses.
8. Apply root cause analysis techniques to support accident prevention.
9. Assist in emergency preparedness, drills, and response activities onboard.
10. Support occupational health, welfare, and fatigue management programs.
11. Contribute to the effective implementation of the Shipboard Safety Management System (SMS).
12. Promote a positive safety culture and continuous improvement in shipboard operations.
